Meet Our Pastor

     

Our pastor, Michael F. Dwyer, is no stranger to the community. He and George Valley have lived in Pittsford for the past 21 years. Michael taught English and Social Studies at Otter Valley Union High School from 1988 to 2018, and prior to that, at Mount St. Joseph Academy from 1983 to 1988. The Vermont Department of Education named him Teacher of the Year in 2004.

 A graduate of Boston College with degrees in English and History, he completed his M.A. at Middlebury College’s Bread School of English. He studied for two years at St John’s Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts. Active church participation and choir membership has always been part of his life.

Michael served as a trustee of the Maclure Library for seven years. A past presenter and life member of the Pittsford Historical Society, he lectures frequently on historical and genealogical topics. Named a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists for his published scholarship, he writes for a several genealogical journals. He also hosts “Historically Speaking,” a monthly television program from the Rutland Historical Society aired on PEG TV.

Michael and fellow licensed UCC minister George Valley have lived in Pittsford since 1999. Elected as our settled pastor at Annual Meeting in July 2021, Michael brings energy and enthusiasm to our church which he values as an integral part of our community.
